  • PHLAFF x PhillyCAM presents <Dimelo>

    A gathering of Latine content creators, storytellers and creatives.

    Dimelo (pronounced dee-meh-lo) a slang greeting, can be used for “What's up” or “What's happening.” Literally translated, dimelo means “Tell it to me.” You can use this as a response to que lo que or you can lead with it.

    This place is for sharing your ideas, work, current and emerging projects that need support and networks while building community with fellow practitioners.

    The goal is to have a mix of veteran PhillyCAM and newer producers in the room (film, TV, Radio)

    Presenters consider both what they need and what they can offer…

    Format: 3-min slots open to 8 people (total 24 minutes). Each person is encouraged to prepare/show a 1 min media clip.

  • Write Your Narrative: Asserting Credibility and Expertise

    Challenge traditionally held standards of credibility, identify the expertise in your own lived experience, and outline a potential op-ed draft of your own in this one-hour workshop presented by Community Narratives and Community Engagement at Resolve Philly.

    Take your outline beyond the workshop and into the next stage with direct support from Resolve’s Associate Editor of Community Narratives, ultimately pitching your finished piece among Resolve’s 29 newsroom partners.

  • Alternative Media and the Solidarity Economy

    This panel discussion will analyze the role of alternative media in "telling the story of our freedom" and informing one another of what must be done, while working to build a just world where people and planet are prioritized over profit.

    Moderator Tauhid Chappell from Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.

    Panelists include: Vanessa Maria Graber from Free Press, Antoine Haywood from PhillyCAM, Malav Kanuga from Making Worlds Bookstore and Common Notions Press, and Gabrielle Peterson and Alex Wiles from Bonfire Media.

    Presented in partnership with Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance (PACA) and Making Worlds Bookstore.

  • Facing the Monsters Together

    A writing workshop wherein horror is our goal and fear is our weapon. Here, we'll explore what terrifies you, and how to use horror as a means to process your fears. We'll discuss current horror makers, create our own horror rules, begin to craft our own horror stories, and receive supportive feedback without fear or favour. Don't be scurred.

    Join a mixer and live taping about Philly’s podcast landscape, how to maintain local roots, and develop your podcast show. These seasoned producers will offer industry insight whether you’re a novice or expert!

    Cathode Ray Tapestries, Black Patches, and Termite TV present short live video mixing sets interspersed with talkback & demos, demystifying the process of digital and analog video synthesizers and live processing.

    Enter the studio for a multisensory experience to learn how the medium of video can be stretched, mixed and tweaked in abstract ways.
